I last wrote after our dog passed away, which was end of August (post has since been removed).
I write less and less now. Especially about houses. If you miss those posts, I’m sorry.
While this blog was supposed to help me organize all my real estate-related musings, and if I’m honest, help me land a job in that industry, it didn’t pan out that way. Which I guess is sorta great, haha.
Instead, I created a board game with full intent to manufacture it as soon as I can. The idea wouldn’t die, so I thought I’d better see the project through. It’s been a fun undertaking; however, this left a lot less room for writing. And in case you wonder, hopefully I’ll be done with the game in 6 months.
But the lack of writing isn’t only because of the game. It’s also because I just don’t care about the real estate and home design industry the way I used to. Perhaps I’ve outgrown it, which makes me feel happy. All my real-estate derived skills have been useful in my new endeavor, so it isn’t all bad. Just different.
The other reason for my lack of writing is because it seems like most of my visitors are bots. Of course I hope one of you readers out there (real readers) has found something useful on my site, I really do hope so! But lately it feels so pointless to write sometimes (at least here, online)… like I’m writing for AI to come along and just eat me up. Am I? Maybe. I don’t know.
Enough excuses though. I do feel like writing today and a couple things have caught my eye since the New Year.
First, this article on friction maxxing- originally published by The Cut. It immediately made me think of the IndieWeb prompt to write something on friction, which I did. But why wasn’t the IndieWeb community (and that prompt) mentioned? So many great posts before The Cut jumped on the bandwagon. Ah, well.
Second, anyone who’s lurked here knows how I feel about big corporate homeownership: it shouldn’t be a thing. Well, the latest real estate news points to Trump’s plan to ban big corporate homeownership. Interesting. Supposedly he’s taking his plans with him to the World Economic Forum at Davos. You know… where it was first stated that us little people would own nothing and we’d be happy, lol. So yeah, yeah, curious to see how that proposed ban pans out. I’ll be on the lookout for any post-worthy updates.
That’s it for now, but before you go, can I ask a favor? If you enjoy reading anything here, or if you’ve ever found anything I’ve written useful, will you please email me at houserat.blog@gmail and tell me so?
Thank you, thank you, thank you and Happy New Year everyone. May it be cozy and bright.
